Beijing Vantone
IT Research Institute

Beijing Vantone IT Research Institute is a scientific research institution formed by Vantone as it steps into the new development stage. With a strong commitment to integrate the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles within its full-cycle operations, Vantone has invited outstanding scientists to lead the institute.

Purpose and Mission

5G technology has marked the start of the new era of communications drastically different from those led by 2G, 3G and 4G technologies. It has changed the earlier model of Consumer Internet in which core technologies drove consumption upgrades and iterations. The 5G era is no longer simply defined by core technologies, but is characterized by a comprehensive integration of a variety of technologies and applications. This is the main reason why The International Telecommunication Union of the United Nations defines 5G technology as the one of "low latency, high bandwidth, and multiple connections". The 5G era requires a new two-sided approach with the application scenarios at one end and the communication technology at the other, all interconnected and complementary.

Embarking on a new journey, Vantone has established Beijing Vantone IT Research Institute aiming to fully integrate the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles across the whole cycle of operations and management, to further fulfil its corporate social responsibility and contribute to the sustainable economic and social development. The institute invites outstanding scientists from key fields to join an Expert Committee and promote the implementation and use of new technologies through regular scientific exchanges and seminars.

Embracing the boom of 5G, satellite internet, artificial intelligence, big data and the "dual-carbon" economy, Vantone Research Institute aims to link Vantone Group and its key shareholders with a variety of application scenarios across infrastructure facilities, smart city, smart airport, smart manufacturing and logistics parks. The institute's research encompasses theoretical base, major policies, cutting-edge technologies and more to provide strategic consultations, technical and resources support for the efficient integration of emerging technologies within application scenarios across the IT and communication industry.

Experts Committee

Being the core team of the Vantone Research Institute, the Expert Committee participates in the formulation of mid- and long-term strategies, as well as annual construction plans for the institute and wider Vantone Group. The team leads research on basic theories, major policies, cutting-edge technologies and their integration within application scenarios, as well as provides strategic consultations and technical support to facilitate Vantone Group's digital transformation.

周寰

Zhou Huan Dean of the Research Institute

Zhou Huan, former Director of the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People's Republic of China, former Chairman and President of Datang Telecom Technology Industry Group, concurrent member of the National S-863 Core Working Group, Deputy Director of the Posts and Telecommunications Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Information Industry, Executive Director of the China Institute of Communications, Director of China Post and Telecommunications Enterprise Association and China Information Industry Association.

Zhou Huan led Datang Telecom Group to propose the third-generation mobile communication standard "TD-SCDMA" holding its unique intellectual property rights. It was accepted by ITU as an international 3G mobile communication standard breaking the monopoly of western developed countries on communication standards for a century. The "TD-SCDMA" industry established by Zhou Huan has turned into one of China's core competitive advantages on the global market in the past 20 years. The advancement of the "TD-SCDMA" standard became the key milestone in the history of China's communications industry and the symbol of its power.
